Though others I know have argued that the impacts of colonialism and the arrival of outsiders seeking conquest played a major role in uprooting the former status-quo.   • curprev 02:4902:49, 10 May 2023imported>AnAnonBoi123 16,398 bytes +12 From what research I have done, There can be an argument made that the reasons the nations fought each other was due to many complicated factors, and that the inter-tribal wars between nations were in large part due to tribal alliances and rivalries with colonial empires, arguably making the beaver wars more of a proxy-war for the influence of western powers which the Haudenosaunee got roped into, causing large-scale intertribal warfare rather than by the desire for mere imperial conquest.

In many ways, they can be said to be a classless, and stateless society, ran by consensus, but ALSO, leadership was ran by a council of about 50 women entirely through lineage, and had the power to veto out leaders and policy, and also practiced forms of slavery.
