In 2025, the Guianese National Liberation Army (GNLA) launched an offensive against the French government starting in Cayenne. By 2026 the GNLA had won and set up the Guiana Peoples Republic, a Revolutionary Maoist state, in its place. Meanwhile in Suriname there was a Coup d'état by a Military Junta and set up an Autocracy led by Broos Houtman, who incentivised eco-friendliness to an extreme point.

By 2034 the governments of Guiana and Suriname were very hostile with each other, and the people in both countries were tired of their authoritarian governments. Eventually Guiana declared war on Suriname and the two fought basically without border change for 2 years. While this was happening, an underground group known as the Guiana-Suriname Free Liberty Army (GSFLA) started rounding up recruits through their newspaper "The Liberties", they drove support from the idea of freedom from the tyrannical governments of the two. In 2036, the GSFLA staged a revolt in Paramaribo, and placed guerrillas around both countries. They also rallied citizen support and successfully created the Free Libertarian Republic of Guiana and Suriname.
