Mariateguism is an economically left-wing, 
culturally variable (although also 
Culturally Right for the most part), 
indigenist and patriotic ideology inhabiting the 
left-half of the political compass. Although named after him, Mariateguism is not based exclusively on Mariategui's ideas, as it is also based on the old ideas of the PCP (Partido Comunista Peruano) before its split in the 1960’s.
