Longism is an economically left-wing, culturally center, statist AuthLeft ideology. Longism name, ideology, and personality are based on Huey Long, governor and senator from Louisiana in the 1930s. While believing in Capitalism, Longism wants to heavily regulate the markets with his "Share Our Wealth" plan which involved taxing the rich to fund social programs for free education, old-age pensions, public works, and universal basic income.
What sets him apart from Social Democracy and other moderate AuthLeft ideologies is that he believes that the use of corruption and intimidation to undermine opponents are valid ways to achieve reform.
Paternalistic Conservatism, Distributism, and Longism are currently the three AuthLeft ideologies that do not identify as socialist of any kind and should be portrayed being irritated when they are called that, their beliefs meant to provide an alternative to socialism with populist economics. Paternalistic Conservatism and Longism favor heavily regulated and populist state capitalism while Distributism favors co-ops, guilds, and family-owned enterprises. Longism is culturally moderate and, while secular in its institutions, is influenced by the Bible. Paternalistic Conservatism favors working with religious institutions when possible and Distributism is based on Catholic social teaching.
Stylistic Notes
- Despite the crown, Longism is not a monarchist. He wears the crown due to his belief that every man should be a king through social programs.
- Frequently denies being socialist, but admits to voting for leftist economic policies all the time as per the real Huey Long.
- Hates LibRight ideologies with a burning passion, usually tolerates others if they aren't getting in his way.
- Will often make speeches about his childhood or early career and how they relate to current politics and his beliefs.
- Loves football and gin fizzes (specifically the New Orleans/Ramos gin fizz)
- Best friends and often seen with Distributism
How to Draw
- Draw a circle
- Draw a simplified version of the Coat of Arms of Huey Long, starting with the diagonal red lines, then the fish, then the fish's crown. (The latter two don't need to be complicated/have details, using a solid color is fine.)
- Add a crown to Longism
- Add eyes
- Done!
Relationships
Friends
- Distributism - Probably my best friend, we're united in the cause of Sharing the Wealth!
- Social Democracy - A great guy and a great friend with great ideas, too bad he insists on "democracy" even when it doesn't always get the job done. Runner up for my best friend.
- Paternalistic Conservatism - A bit of patriotism and a bit of wealth sharing sounds amazing.
- Social Authoritarianism - This guy gets me.
- Left-Wing Populism - One of my earliest friends and supporters, I am for the poor man after all.
Frenemies
- Socialism - Has more good ideas than bad but insists on dressing up in a un-American red
- Social Libertarianism - Wants to share the wealth, but when it comes to busting those trusts he tends to falter.
- Monarcho-Socialism - I don't like how people say that we're similar, but he does have quite a bit of neat ideas.
Enemies
- Syndicalism / Anarcho-Syndicalism - GODDAMN UNAMERICAN SYNDIES! Also, keeps thinking of a timeline where he fought them in a Second American Civil War.
- Marxism–Leninism GODDAMN SOVIET AGENTS! Using authority and loving charismatic strong men to fight capitalism is kinda cool though.
- Anarcho-Capitalism - GODDAMN EXPLOITIVE CAPITALISTS!
- Fascism - I SAID EVERY MAN A KING, NOT JUST ONE ETHNIC GROUP'S. Nationalism is based though.
- National Socialism - DON'T COMPARE ME WITH THAT SO-AND-SO! Anybody that lets his public policies be mixed up with religious prejudice is a plain God-damned fool.
- Radical Feminism and Libertarian Feminism and Anarcha-Feminism - I TOLD YOU I DON'T LITERALLY WANT ALL MEN TO BE KINGS. Also by men can be gender-neutral for human you idiots.
- Urbism - Every man a king... of their own country??? That's not what I meant.
