Sections and images of this wiki may be, in whole or in part, adopted from the Polcompball Wiki and/or the Polcompball Anarchy Wiki. When text/code sections and/or images are uploaded by a third party, they must be credited according to CC BY-SA 4.0. Uncredited works created by third parties on the Polcompball Wikis, or works which are uploaded by a third party to this wiki which violate the original creator's copyright no matter their origin, are disallowed and constitute a bannable offence in addition to the falsely uploaded works being deleted from the FreePCB Wiki.
Eligibility
We have determined that, based on U.S. Copyright law, it is advisable to use the appropriate license for the above mentioned works, primarily creatively designed icons, taken from other wikis.
Icon base/template
We have determined that, under U.S. copyright law, the white round base icon created by Inky and Atzyn on the Polcompball Wiki, and used by the majority of both imported and original icons, does not meet the eligibility criteria for copyright.
- It does not meet the threshold of originality required to be eligible for copyright in the United States.
The icon template is a black circle of 24x22 pixels with two circular eyes of 6x6 pixels. It is a simple combination of three circles filled in white and surrounded by a transparent background. This is a work which, due to its low pixel size and universal shape, is easily recreated without intent, and does thus not meet the standard for creativity as established in U.S. copyright law since the 1991 Feist Publications, Inc., v. Rural Telephone Service Co. ruling. - It was created with the intention of being copied without attribution as a base of others' creative works.
The base-icon was created with the intent for it to be copied, distributed, and modified by others without attribution despite the officially applied CC BY-SA 4.0 license. The originally applied license to the work is highly questionable, as the intent for creation of the does not foresee credit being given to the original authors, said license is also clearly unenforced as one sees by the usage of the modified uncredited template on both the Polcompball and Polcompballl Anarchy wikis, as well as subreddits.
