History

Pre-Collapse Greenland (mid to late 2020's)

Greenland was an overseas territory of Denmark until the late 2020's, when the collapse of Europe caught up with the relatively small state. When Germany fell apart and the EU followed soon after, Denmark lost so much political and economic power that they were in real danger of being swept up by the warmongering powers surrounding it. Fearing war, the Danish government ramped up their military, and many Greenlandians were conscripted and moved to the mainland, where they stayed indefinitely.
However, this was in vain, and like most other European powers, Denmark eventually collapsed. This meant that Greenland was suddenly completely on its own, and this wasn't helped by one of the hottest summers the country had ever experienced due to global warming. The Greenlandian institutions were overwhelmed, and the country quickly became depopulated as the people left the nation for Europe and America. The only significant group that remained were the native Inuit people, who were surprisingly adapt at surviving the harshest of crises.

The Settlers (early to mid 2030's)

A few years later, some religious refugees from Europe settled in Greenland. The founders of the Church of the Great Old Ones, who were fleeing from religious discrimination and general turmoil in Mainland Europe, had decided to settle in Eastern Greenland, as it was a nearly abandoned strip of Land that was surprisingly fertile due to climate change.
The Church had formed a few years earlier, during the collapse of Europe, as some people needed to find a new Religion. It was formed by a conglomerate of European (mostly German) former Agnosticists, who, after being largely either ignored or discriminated against by the New European authorities, bought some ships and materials and set sail to Greenland.
On the second of January 2033, Lovecraftian Architect and Diplomat Marten Kessler negotiated a treaty with the Inuit people and laid the first cornerstone of the first house of the settlement that would eventually become New R'lyeh. The Lovecraftians soon formed a very strong strategy for settling and forming a nation in the unclaimed territory of Greenland: They, from the start, were extremely friendly with the Greenlandian indigenous people, negotiated land treaties with them, worked together with them and became closely bonded to them. The two groups worked together, which soon transformed the loose confederation of religious europeans into a functioning, stable Nation with a strong national identity. Soon, New R'lyeh was transformed from a small settlement solely focused on practicality to a respectable city with a unique look due to an abundance of Temples.
In 2035, a few hardline Conservative Church members and some native Danish Irredentists claimed a part of Northeastern Greenland as their own, wanting to eventually overthrow the young Church-Government and split the land between them. The East Greenlandian Army stomped down hard on this Rebel group, crushing it in its wake and quickly retaking the region, and immediately imprisoned all the rebel leaders. They were sentenced to death and all of them were executed in the central square of R'lyeh.

Global Conflicts (mid 2030's - late 2030's)

When the Theocratic State of East Greenland eventually formed, they immediately began looking outward. The Church-Government knew that there still were Lovecraftians in Europe who hadn't been able to go to Greenland with them, but what they didn't expect were that those believers had been very vocal about their beliefs, and had inspired many people in Asia, Africa and the Americas to also give Lovecraftianism a try. Europe now had its own Church of the Great Old Ones, an Organization that had no relation to the Church in Greenland. The East Greenlandian Government established relations with the European Branch church, and established Branch Churches in Asia and America. Those Branch Churches were free to do as they pleased and to rule themselves, they only had to be loyal to the Church in religion and support it in crisis.
Then, the Church of Greenland had to deal with something more pressing, and way more dangerous, than organizing their foreign believers. They were a big nation between the historically important continents of Europe and North America, and therefore they were now required to deal with the countries on both continents, who would like to establish dominion over the trade routes of the Atlantic. Easily the most important of those countries was Greater Illinois, the Midwestern American nation who was working hard and fast to reunify the US under their banner and bring humanity forward through their technological prowess. The Greater Illinoian leadership was extremely opposed to the Lovecraftian religion, and went so far as to ban the practice of Lovecraftianism and the reading of Lovecraft's books. They were the greatest ideological rival of East Greenland, and they pushed the nation into an alliance with another Imperialist power: Indonesia.
Under the most reactionary parliament the nation had ever seen, East Greenland established its embassy in Indonesia and began negotiating treaties with the Divine Order and its Emperor. Multiple Greenlandian scientists helped the indonesian military industrial complex with manufacturing Bioweapons, and many Indonesians were "persuaded" to convert to Lovecraftianism to bond the two nations together. This worked for a few months, until the Greenlandian parliament changed in the year 2036. The Progressive Church Overwatch Party came into power again, and the Conservative Church Overwatch Party suffered a historic loss due to their mistreatment of the people and even the Church. The New Progressive Government immediately started to draft a treaty of Non-Aggression with Greater Illinois, as they knew it was extremely dangerous to further antagonize the nation with the greatest military in the world, a hatred of Lovecraftianism, and an incentive to stop their rival power of Indonesia through all means necessary. This, unfortunately, lead to a schism between East Greenland and Indonesia, and Indonesia soon started carrying out air strikes with multiple chemical weapons on East Greenland. The government, having foreseen this eventuality, launched "Program Killjoy". This program had been devised by the entire government and military, as a "Last Resort" in case of aerial attacks on the country. Massive Bunker networks had been constructed in the underground under the cities of New R'lyeh, Innech Gavhak and Lyig, and the public transportation networks of Greenland, hailed as some of the best in the World, had been optimized to quickly transport people between all different parts of the country. While a lot of the country was devastated, and especially New R'lyeh was almost completely wiped from the face of the earth by Indonesian air strikes, which resulted in massive civilian casualties even with a successful organization of Program Killjoy. While all this was going on, Greater Illinois and its allies had been fed up with Indonesian expansionism and state support for war crimes, and had rallied their armies to attack the Empire. Had it been headed by any other man, Indonesia would have immediately conceded, but the Kaiser Emperor was a mad tyrant and didn't even see how the decision to enter a war with Greater Illinois would definitely result in the collapse of his regime.
When Greater Illinoisian and Allied operatives preparated their assaults on Indonesia, the Greenlandian army sent many of their soldiers to take part. They were seen as foreign volunteers by Greater Illinois, although they were in reality being pressured into fighting by their entire nation. These small Greenlandian divisions took part in many campaigns across Indonesia, most notably the Invasion of Papua, where they captured multiple control points and helped lay siege to the local army control center. After only three months of war, Indonesia surrendered and consequently signed the treaty of Jakarta, in which they agreed to immediately stop all military operations of foreign ground. This obviously included stopping the assaults on East Greenland.
After this message was brought to the Greenlandian government, Project Killjoy was called off and the citizens were made to leave the bunkers. This would not only mark the end of the war in Greenland, but also the end of Greenland as a global pariah, and would lead the state into a shining future.

Geography

East Greenland is divided into eight administrative divisions, all except for two are named after their biggest city.

Division of Jechzvath
- The biggest industry of this Division is farming. It was spared of the Indonesian aerial attacks because, as the furthest southwest division, it was coincidentally protected by Greater Illinoian Anti-Air missile defense systems, and has been providing Grain, potatoes and other crops to the more affected divisions. The citizens of the Division of Jechzvath consistently rank as the most content in the nation, which might be to do with the fact that they have no worries about food, unlike most other citizens. In polls, this division leans Moderate, and the Pressure Group "Religious Democrats" stems from here.

Division of New R'lyeh
- Unsurprisingly, this division in considered the Heart of the Nation. The National Capital is located here, as are multiple important ports and tourist destinations. It is the richest district, its citizens are relatively content, police reports show a surprisingly low crime rate, it was the first division to be established by the settlers, and it is the cultural epicenter of East Greenland. The division leans Progressive, as is expected from the division with the most city areas.

Division of D'vuriuth
- This division is the industrial capital of East Greenland. As it lays in the south of the country, it is filled with fields of Solar Panels, and Wind Turbines are also abundant.

Division of Innech Gavhak
- The Military Division. Innech Gavakh and its surroundings are the main hub of the East Greenlandian Cursed Army, and Weapon Manufacturing co-ops are everywhere, constantly getting contracts from the government. The Christian Fascist militia "Warriors of Heaven and Earth" are also mostly stationed here, so scuffles between them and the military are constantly breaking out. Therefore, this region also leans Conservative, being more aggressive and supremacist.

Division of Kamthya

Division of Northern Greenland
- The second Largest Division by Land Area, the Division of Northern Greenland has practically no Inhabitants, except a few very small towns in the very south of the Division, and sometimes some Native communities. Even though it is not as cold as it was in the past, courtesy of Global Warming, it still is very cold. Nothing really significant happens here.

Division of Lyeg
- This division is relatively small, but extremely important. Lyeg is the location of the Scientific Compound, a network of factories, labs and tunnels, where the scientists of East Greenland conduct research in all fields. The Science Ministry is also located here. Known as the most progressive city in the country, Lyeg has almost as many minority communities as it has scientific ones. It is also a very popular tourist destination, being a city with beautiful architecture and many interesting smaller communities.

Autonomous tribal division of the Inuit
- By far the largest in the country, this division is given to the native Inuit people of Greenland, so they can live their lifestyle without being bothered by the East Greenlandian state or its inhabitants. They can manage their own affairs, and are protected from outside interference by the Church-Government. Meanwhile, the Inuit have agreed to not take part in any East Greenlandian affairs, so they do not vote in elections and do not pay taxes to the state government.
