The concepts of equality and equity are often debated and can seem contradictory depending on how they are applied or interpreted.

    • Equality** means treating everyone the same regardless of their circumstances. The idea is that everyone should have the same opportunities and resources. However, this approach can sometimes fail to address underlying disparities because it does not account for differing starting points or needs.
    • Equity**, on the other hand, focuses on fairness by acknowledging that different people have different needs and challenges. It aims to provide resources and opportunities based on individual circumstances to achieve more balanced outcomes. While this approach addresses inequalities more directly, it can be seen as contradictory to equality because it involves different treatments for different individuals.

The tension between equality and equity arises from their different focuses: equality emphasizes uniformity, while equity emphasizes fairness and justice tailored to individual needs. Balancing these principles can be complex, as striving for one can sometimes complicate the other.
