There were two leading factions. One was the British Unionists, leaded by Thatcher, who supported a Protestant Theocracy in Ireland. While the other were the Irish Republicans, a pro separatist movement in Northern Ireland who wanted Irish cultural preservation and independence, and also supported a socialist governent in Ireland.
