Cyprus is a country in the Mediterranean, which is divided into 8 districts. Cyprus has a population of ~1,375,000. Lefkosia is the nation's capital and largest city. Other major cities include Pafos/Baf, Lemesos/Limassol, Ammoxostos/Gazimagusa, Larnaka, and Keryneia/Girne.
Cyprus has a subtropical climate with very mild winters and hot summers. The longest Cypriot river is the Pedieos/Kanlidere, and Cyprus's highest point is Mount Olympus, situated in the Troodos mountain range.
Cyprus is an Orthodox theocracy with the government having the sole goal of upholding Orthodox Christianity, and by extension, Orthodox law. Its Primate is the recently elected Archbishop Loukas I.
Government and politics
The Primate is the head of the state and the Church of Cyprus. In the most recent election, held in 2026 after His Beatitude Archbishop George passed away, Loukas I, a radical theocrat also known for supporting unification and unity with Turkish Cypriots, gained power. Loukas I orchestrated the 2028 coup and currently heads the state. Lower-level executive power is in the hands of Bishops who may make local laws and regulations so long as they do not contradict Orthodox Christian law.
The Primate is elected via episcopal election, where the candidate is elected via a vote of a collegial board after a universal vote. Only the top three candidates from the universal vote will go on to the collegial vote. Those who wish to be elected must have a degree of at least 10 years from an Orthodox school, ten years of ministry, and be at least 35 years old.
Administrative divisions
Cyprus is divided into 8 districts, these being Pafos/Baf, Lemesos/Limasol, Larnaka, Lefkosia, Ammoxostos/Gazimagusa, and Keryneia/Girne. After the re-annexations of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, the former was merged into the Lemesos/Limasol district, and the latter into the Ammoxostos/Gazimagusa district.
