Byzantinism or Byzantism, is a term which refers to the political system of the Byzantine Empire as well as implementations of such or similar system outside of it.[2][1][3] The Byzantine system was notable for being extremely bureaucratic, with it effectively being the most centralised state in medieval Europe. Byzantinism lived on despite the Byzantine's empire collapse, being adopted through the empire's spiritual succesors in the Balkans and to lesser extent in Russia[3], Germany [1] and France.
