| Leninism is a modification and expansion of orthodox [[File: Ormarxf.png]] [[Marxism]] developed by Vladimir Lenin which believes that socialism is best achieved through a powerful, one party state. Following Marx's theories that socialism will arise from the revolt of the oppressed proletariat, Leninism asserts that the revolution's focus and energy must be directed by a powerful "vanguard party" in order to ensure its success and prevent the gaining of political power by "hostile classes". The state should also be organized around this party, with a hierarchical series of elected committees relaying political power to the upper echelons of the party who then make decisions, a practice known as democratic centralism.
