This page is for the ideology that advocates for corporate control or influence of government, for the third-positionist economic ideology espoused by many fascists, see Corporatism.
Corporatocracy also called Corpocracy, Crony Capitalism, Lemon Socialism, Cronyism, Supercapitalism and Socialism for the Rich is an economic system in which the state intervenes within the economy for the benefit of the profit of a select number for corporations, especially in the context of squashing competition.
History
A corporatocracy-like economic policy could have been said to have started with the process of enclosure in England. The enclosure was a process in England practiced since the 13th century by which the English State took communally owned rural land by force and gave it to private owners.
When Mercantilism became popularized, governments began to create monopoly corporations in certain trades and industries. Some of these firms such as the East India Company and Hudson Bay Company became so powerful they effectively ruled over the territory.
During the Gilded Age, with the rise of industrial capitalism monopolies and other corporations began to get more influence in the government with corruption being rampant. However, during the Progressive era corruption and influence of corporations in government declined.
Since the presidency of Ronald Reagan in the 1980's many say the United States has been experiencing a constant shift towards Corporatocracy due to more favorable policies given to corporations, corporate influence in government (Lobbying aka legalized bribery), rising income inequality, and the dominance of the workplace by corporations.
Variants
Lemon Socialism
Lemon Socialism emerged as a pejorative term for an economic system based on: a government that offers subsidies to weak, bad or bankrupt companies so that they don't end up and remain in the market.
Supercapitalism
Supercapitalism was a concept created by fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, in which the state would intervene in society so that it was fully standardized, so that companies could know what customers want and customers could consume infinitely. This variant is comparable to Fordism, the fictional ideology of "Brave New World"
Congo Free State Model
The Congo Free State Model was based on the Congo Free State, a former colony of Leopold II, King of the Belgians . The economy is based on a state that enslaves black population, so that the enslaved are distributed to corporations and slaves who do not obey would be killed or lose their hands. In general, the Congo Free State economy preaches state interference to protect large corporations that enslave Blacks.
Shellism
Shellism, Shell model, or more appropriately, Shell Colonialism, is based on the Shell PLC(formerly Royal Dutch Shell PLC), a supermajor oil giant, and its subjugation of Nigeria. The basis of its beliefs would involve securing hegemony over a country through constant bribery towards its government and national military, controlling and operating the oil via its oil extraction infrastructure and distribution networks, and spreading propaganda to pacify the population and sway public opinion to hide the several atrocities committed there, including the aforementioned corruption and bribery, bribed military operations to suppress anyone there from spreading awareness and fighting for genuine change, and the several thousand oil spills resulting in the poisoning of Nigeria's water supply and environment that were denied responsibility of shell and were instead blamed on terrorists.
Bezosism/Amazonism
Bezosism, Amazonism or Amazonization, is based on the relationship between Jeff Bezos and his company Amazon, with the American government. It is the driest form of Corporatocracy, preaching that the only state interference in the economy is to give subsidies and forgive some deregulation of private companies.
Metaverseism
Metaverseism is an ideology based around the leadership of the "metaverse" concept, which supports a digital universe where humans would spend large amounts of time or in more extreme cases, live in there. This would usually be incorporated with socialising, a form of market economy and large amounts of entertainment, commonly games. This would be achieved by advanced technology, most commonly Virtural Reality, Augmented Reality, CryptoCurrency and NFTs.
Metaverses are most often owned & supported by large companies, commonly those who hold generic corporatocratic views, which often employ "morally questionable" tactics, such as using psychology as a way to addict users to their service. A lot of large metaverse companies (most notably Facebook and Roblox) are accused for poor and automated moderation, often compared to Totalitarianism. These services can be seen as an unironic form of Mega Corpocracy.
The common views for the metaverse can also be aligned to Capitalist Transhumanism.
The foundation of Metaverseism is from the 1992 dystopian science fiction novel Snow Crash. This is similar to ideologies such as Ingsoc and Fordism, however while those are fictional and have little to no unironic supporters, Metaverseism has a large and politically significant amount of supporters. It is one of the most common forms of Corporatocracy.
Metaversism can be rather abstract since individuals, governments and other entities can make metaverses. A good example of a libertarian and (debatably) economically left-leaning metaverse is VRChat. Since metaverses are not strictly authoritarian or economically right-wing, the only ideology that can represent all "metaverses" is Transhumanism.
Steve Sisolak thought
Steve Sisolak thought believes that local governments should be run by tech companies. He believes that by letting tech companies do local governance, economic development and advances in technology would accelerate.
Mega Corporatocracy
Mega Corporatocracy is an ideology that wants to one corporation control all aspects of human life, force everyone to only work and consume. There is only one world government that has a monopoly on everything. An example of Mega Corporatocracy is the BNL from the Wall-E movie.
Personality
Corporatocracy as a character cares a hell of a lot about getting the maximum amount of money as possible, and unlike certain other people with this trait, corp is very much willing to use organized violence to achieve this goal.
Corp absolutely loves government policies that favor the wealthy to an insane extent, and he is often seen literally worshipping the concepts of Fiat Currency and Intellectual Property as Deities. Because of his love of these policies, he despises any sort of Cryptocurrency or hard currencies and hates the public domain.
Since he thinks the state must serve powerful business owners, he is one of the few ideologies that openly believes that corporate lobbying is a good thing. This is an idea that even most other capitalist ideologies see as unjust (when consistent).
