History

The ideology of Chavismo was based on former Venezuelan president and ex-military Hugo Chávez, along with the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement-200, Fifth Republic Movement and the Great Patriotic Pole, in addition to influencing other movements and politicians of left and in Latin America.

  • Hugo Chávez - Chávez became interested in socialism when he was in the military, becoming interested in Che Guevara and having read Marx, Lenin and Mao. In 1977 he founded a left-wing movement in the army, the People's Liberation Army of Venezuela, in which he held Marxist clandestine meetings. In 1982, he founded the Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement-200, in which he further developed his ideology and became interested in Liberation Theology, attempting a coup in 1992, but it failed, resulting in his arrest. After being released in government at Rafael Caldera, he ascended politically, winning the 1998 elections for the Fifth Republic Movement.

As president of Venezuela, he changed the name of the Republica de Venezuela to República Bolivariana de Venezuela, also nationalized Venezuelan companies, an agrarian reform and adopted measures to move Venezuela away from Neoliberalism. Even though he was praised for some measures such as the "Bolivarian Missions", reducing illiteracy and increasing the rights of women and indigenous people, but he was criticized for his authoritarianism, increased inflation, scarcity, poverty and violence, having helped the FARC and anti-Semitism. He also had relations with left-wing presidents in Latin America, including: Evo Morales , Rafael Correa , Fidel Castro , Lula da Silva , Daniel Ortega , Raul Castro , Dilma Rousseff among others.

Basic Ideas

The ideas of Chavismo are legacies, that of Simon Bolivar.

Bolivar, getting his ideas form the French Revolution, wanted liberty, consitution of goverment, and wanted separation of religion from state. He was very Authoritarian, but wanted it to be a transition to Democracy.

Relations

Chavistas

  • Bolivarianism - Dad!
  • Socialism of the 21st Century - Mom!
  • Trotskyism - Wait... dad again? I'm so... what?
  • Peruanismo - Yet another d- Great ideological inspiration and I still remember Chorrillos Military School being my alma mater, and thank you for giving me a book about the Peruvian Revolution!
  • Christian Socialism - Socialism is the only way to the world that Jesus envisioned!
  • Castroism - Fellow ally against American imperialism and capitalism.
  • Marxism–Leninism - Thank you for defending me against imperialism, even if we disagree on things.
  • Social Patriotism - Viva la Revolución Bolivariana de Venezuela! My allies are Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Dilma Rousseff, Daniel Ortega, and Rafael Correa.
  • Left-Wing Populism - Populism is based, so are left-wing economics.
  • Ba'athism - "From here, we send our solidarity to the Syrian people, to president Bashar. They are resisting imperialist aggression..."
  • Khomeinism - My good Shia anti-imperialist friend helped set up some shops to help my people.
  • Capitalist Communism - Bolibourgeoisie are totally better than the regular ones.

Opositores

  • Liberalism - Can you please stop thinking I'm making democracy worse?
  • Neoliberalism - Imperialist who wants to keep Latin America impoverished!
  • Imperialism - DIE!!!
  • Mediacracy - Stop blaming the suffering caused by American sanctions on me.
  • PragerU - "VENezuELa 100 MIlliOn DEAd"
  • Guaidóism - You will never win, Guaidó!
  • Libertarianism - STOP SAYING THAT I RUINED VENEZUELA! It has improved! I promise you that inflation was just a small mistake
  • Zionism - ¡Maldito seas, estado de Israel! [5]
  • Neoconservatism - (takes deep breath) I think that the first people who should read this book are our brothers and sisters in the United States, because their threat is right in their own house. The devil is right at home. The devil, the devil himself, is right in the house. And the devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the devil came here. Right here. And it smells of sulfur still today. Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the president of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the devil, came here, talking as if he owned the world. Truly. As the owner of the world. I think we could call a psychiatrist to analyze yesterday’s statement made by the president of the United States. As the spokesman of imperialism, he came to share his nostrums, to try to preserve the current pattern of domination, exploitation and pillage of the peoples of the world. An Alfred Hitchcock movie could use it as a scenario. I would even propose a title: The Devil’s Recipe!
  • Trumpism - I swear you'll pay for backing Guaidó and blocking my motherland!

In 2010, Hugo Chávez proclaimed support for the ideas of Marxist Leon Trotsky, saying "When I called him (former Minister of Labour, José Ramón Rivero)" Chávez explained, "he said to me: 'President I want to tell you something before someone else tells you ... I am a Trotskyist', and I said, 'well, what is the problem? I am also a Trotskyist! I follow Trotsky's line, that of permanent revolution", and then cited Marx and Lenin.
