Taoist Anarchism (TaoAn) is a Libertarian unity ideology that believes Taoism is an Anarchist religion and philosophy and that Taoism should be the main religion to model an anarchist society after.
History
Beginnings
It all started in the 6th century BCE in China. Lao Tzu and his writings are considered by anarchists and the like to be at least very libertarian writings. Him and Zhuang Zhou often questioned the legitimacy of the state and believed in something called non-rule where the ruler should do as little as possible and some people consider this an Anarchist goal.
Wei-Jin period
During the Wei-Jin period of China a new generation Taoist thinkers had Anarchist leanings as they also questioned the legitimacy of the state. They were similar to Philosophical Anarchism as they questioned its morality and were pacifist. This was also the period that gave birth to Pao Ching-yen who was explicitly Anarchist and deeply critiqued states authority and power.
Modern Day
In the 20th and 21st century there have been some anarchists who identified as Taoists such as Liu Shifu and Ursula K. Le Guin.
Beliefs
Emphasizes the "natural harmony" between humanity and nature. Taoist anarchism generally follows the Tao Te Ching, but besides that there are many different branches of Taoist thought (philosophical and religious Taoism).
Many people consider Taoist Anarchism to be "proto-right libertarian" because it had chapters against taxation and state interference in the economy, but Taoists are also anti-hierarchical and have a definition of work similar to the desires of leftist anarchists.
Taoist Anarchism is also strictly anti-militaristic and does not like serving kings.
Yellow Turbans
Zhang Jue used a form of Taoism that healed the sick by making them confess their sins and by faith healing. The ideology of the Yellow Turbans was based on the belief in an apocalyptic change to the world was coming and, in the jiazi year, the Han Dynasty would fall and the sky would turn yellow. The peasants started wearing yellow turbans around their heads to show that they believed in Zhang Jue's ideology. All of the practices of the religious sect were done communally, with all members of the community taking part, including women and those who were perceived as "barbarians". Many Xiongnu warriors would join the Yellow Turbans and the Xiongnu supported Zhang Jue.
Personality
TaoAn is often depicted as being very calm. He talks calmly and keep calm even in stressful situations. He is also depicted meditating. He is seen meditating in his free time and in the background of panels. He is also depicted as being a wise elder to all the other Anarchist ideologies. He is seen giving advice and sharing his wisdom with other anarchist ideologies. Can be consulted by other Asian balls as the "feng shui master".
